Grok Build and MUON
Grok Build is xAI's coding CLI. Start it yourself and connect it to MUON through MCP. Grok can coordinate a MUON crew, but it is never a crew lane or a dispatched worker.
Install the plugin
Install MUON and Grok Build first. Sign in with muon login and make sure muon-mcpis on Grok's PATH. The plugin supplies configuration, commands and a skill; it does not install the MUON executable. From a checkout of the MUON repository, review the plugin before trusting it:
grok plugin validate ./integrations/grok-plugin grok plugin install ./integrations/grok-plugin --trust grok plugin details muon grok inspect
Restart Grok, then ask it to call whoami. The plugin starts the base MCP server as muon. If Grok cannot find the executable, register its resolved path with muon mcp install grok and restart. That command also works without the plugin for MCP tools alone.
Attach a coordinator seat
Run this inside the repository you want the crew to work on, then restart Grok:
muon mcp attach grok
Ask Grok to call whoami again to verify the seat. The attach registration in ~/.grok/config.tomltakes precedence over the plugin's base server. MUON writes it through grok mcp add. The token stays in MUON's owner-only seat file. An expired seat needs a fresh attach; installing the plugin does not renew it. Use muon mcp detach grok to revoke the seat.
What the plugin provides
/muon-statuschecks the seat, fleet readiness and dispatched work./muon-crew <goal>plans tasks and dispatches a governed crew when attached./muon-memory <query>searches and recalls memory./muon-reviewchecks review assignments and affected flows.muon:muon-coordinatorinherits the parent's MCP servers./muon-orchestratorprovides the orchestration skill.
Qualify an ambiguous slash command with muon:, such as /muon:muon-status.
Limits and checks
The base server provides memory and code tools without crew dispatch. Coordinator commands require an attached seat. Human gates remain on MUON surfaces. Grok's own filesystem and shell access follow Grok's permissions; the plugin ships no hooks and does not govern those actions. Grok uses terminal attach, not live attach requests.
muon mcp status grok muon mcp probe grok grok mcp doctor muon grok inspect
MUON status and probe inspect CLI registration. For a plugin-only install, use Grok's inspect and doctor commands. Plugin installation and registration precedence were verified on Grok 1.0.70; authenticated crew dispatch was not exercised in that check.
